Tickets

The Dubai Tram tickets are the same that are available for the Dubai Metro. The price that you pay depends on how many zones you travel through. However, all of the tram stations in phase one are in the same zone (zone 2) so if you just make one journey on the tram, however far, you will only be charged 3 dirhams (if you are using a silver Nol card).

You can use your Nol card to pay for Dubai Tram tickets and other methods of public transport in Dubai like the bus and the Metro.

Children under 5 travel for free, otherwise they need to buy a Nol card and pay the fares below.

If you don’t have a Nol card you can get hold of one at any of the tram or Metro stations, bus stations or RTA offices and also at many other locations including supermarkets. Nol card is the only way to pay for travel.

There aren’t ticket offices at the tram stations, just ticket machines which tend to require the correct change if you are using cash. There are people to help at the tram stations though.

There are ticket machines at each of the stations and someone to help with purchases.

The price that you pay covers travel on the tram, metro and bus so you can travel on all of these and it just depends on how many zones you travel through.

Dubai Tram TicketsValidate Your Nol Card

You must remember to validate your Nol card by tapping it on one of the ticket readers. You need to tap in both on the way in and the way out – otherwise you will be charged the maximum price for a trip or you could be fined if you do not tap it at all. The Nol readers are in all of the stations and there are plenty of them so don’t forget!

The Nol card reader will automatically deduct the correct amount for the fare from your Nol card.

    Hi admin,

Thanks for writing this post. I have some questions that would love an answer:
Is there a cap on the silver card?
Can we use the 7 day all zone pass on waterbus?
Will be going to Dubai in 4 days. Your answers are much appreciated.

    Many thank,
    Vance

Sorry i may be too late to reply.
The cap on the silver Nol is only as much as you have topped it up to (actually slightly less as you cannot travel unless you have a minimum balance of 5.80Dhs)
Yes the 7 day pass includes the water bus

    Hello Admin and All,

Please I intend to travel from JBR to Dubai Mall, please advice on which train station I would alight, and what time to join the tram in the morning, where to purchase ticket as I have never been on the Tram, and other relevant information, I await quick response and appreciate it in advance

    Regards

    • admin

You can take the tram from JBR to either JLT or Dubai Marina tram station where you can change to the Metro. You can then travel on the the Dubai Mall. You will need a Nol card to travel on the tram and metro which you can get at most supermarkets, malls, bus and metro stations. trams are quite frequent in the morning but obviously it depends on what time you want to get there as to what time you set off. I would probably allow an hour to get to Dubai Mall although it may not take that long.

    Hi,
I want to have a day trip using Dubai Metro as well as Dubai Tram on the same for the family of 5.
Which is the most suitable NOL card for this trip and how much will it cost?

    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

    • admin

If you are going to spend more than 20 dirhams on trips in the day each then you should buy a one day travel card for each of you before you travel, costing 20 dirhams per person.

    Hi,

I have a clarification request regarding Tram/Metro mixed use within one trip.
You mention that the charge from going from Zone 1 to Zone 2 is 5dhs.
How should I go about scanning my NOL card if my route is as follows:
    1. Tram from JBR2 to JLT (1 stop)
    2. Metro from JLT to Financial Center

What I did was check in and out at the tram (3dhs) and then check in and out at metro (5dhs).
So my one way trip cost 8 dhs. My understanding from your explanation is that it should be 5dhs only.
If that’s the case, where should I scan my NOL card when entering the tram and metro?

    Thanks.

    • admin

Hi Marc, as I understand it, you need to check in at the very beginning of your journey and then out at the end i.e. at JBR2 tram station and at Financial centre Metro.

    hi
    1. If I buy SILVER NOL for 25 AED – is that card for bus+tram+metro the same?
    2. I`m in Dubai 11 days and I think that I use public transport (bus, tram, metro) every day 4-5 times. is the SILVER NOL the best (cheap) for me?

  • Matt

Transiting Dubai twice in the next few months.
First time just an overnight stay, second time a full day layover (where I would like to make multiple trips)

My assumption is a can buy a Red Card (2 AED) and then load two 2-zone tickets on it for the first trip, and then a day-pass for the second. Is this correct and is this likely to be best value for me? (by my calcs Cost is (2+6+6+20=34) versus (6+5+5+20=36 if able to topup the Silver with 11 after initial 25 purchase)

Secondly I understand ‘transfers’ are 30min – so I could theoretically leave a station for 29min for quick site seeing then back on and pay no more?

Alternatively if I did get the Silver card – can I topup with say 11, or is it limited to 10,20 etc

Finally with a red-card is it possible to mix and match standard/gold tickets ? Obviously not possible on epurse with the separate Silver/Gold cards

    • admin

Hi Matt. With regards to the red nol card, I believe you can only load single trips on that (up to 10) so it may not work for the day pass. It may work out cheaper if those 10 single trips are enough for you though.
Transfers are a continuation of the journey onto another means of transport or route so I think if you were transferring from metro to bus then you should be fine. However, if you are getting off and on the metro or tram then you are effectively doing another journey and you will need to swipe your ticket out and back in again when leaving and entering the station.
Sorry I don’t know the answer to whether top ups need to be in 5 dirham tranches.
No you can’t mix and match on the red Nol card.

  • GHOLLAM

    Good evening,

We will be 2 persons using tram and metro in 2 zones for a week in February.
Could you please let me know where we can buy the weekly silver class ticket (80 dirhams per ticket right?)

    Thank you for your help

    Siham

    • admin

You can buy the Nol card at any of the stations and at many other outlets like supermarkets too.Yes it is 80 dirhams for a weekly 2 zone pass.

  • Nabeel

Hi, I wanted to know, if as a TOurist, I buy a Nol Card with day pass on it, does it allow me to travel through different zones on the same pass or does it cost extra?
    Thanks

    • admin

Sorry for the delay in replying (for some reason I didn’t get notified of your comment) – yes you can use the same blue Nol card on the tram.

  • tania

if i travel by train and bus in the same day, will the day pass cover both?
what if i want to travel by water bus. how will i be charged?

    • admin

If you use the Metro and the bus that is combined in the Nol fare that you pay for that trip. Water bus is charged separately (but still using Nol card) at 2 dirhams per trip.

Hi, I am staying at the Sofitel the palm for 6 nights first week in December, and after reading the rta.ae and your reviews on the not card, I am planning to buy at the international dubai airport a weekly pass silver not card, so we can take the red line from the airport to the DUBAI PROPERTIES METRO STATION 1, then transfer to T1 (Dubai Marina stop towards Al Sufouh) get off at Knowledge Village ? not sure what stop would be best to transfer to the monorail towards the Atlantis Adventure stop of the Palm Monorail. It looks like the Monorail is connected to the tram, but google maps doesn’t give me that option. Sofitel Palm is next to Atlantis – so wanted to ask if there are any shuttles from the hotels to the monorail or we have to take a cab or walk (23min walk it says on google maps). Thank you for your help.

    • admin

Yes you are right, go to the Marina stop on the Metro and change there for the tram. The tram links in with the Monorail at Palm Jumeirah station (see map page). Yes Sofitel Palm is a bit of a walk to Atlantis but there are free shuttle buses to the monorail from the hotel. Don’t forget that the Nol card does not give you access to the Monorail – you can find more info on that on http://www.palm-monorail.com

hi.. i am only in Duabi for the one day and thought if buy a day pass does this allow me to on/off at each station and the whole cost is 20 dirhams?
if we stayed on for the whole round trip, what would be the cost of that?
if we transferred to see Palm Jumeiraham and then back on what is the cost of that?

    • admin

If you get on and off then each trip will cost you 3 dirhams. You can get on and off as many times as you like for the day fee of 20 dirhams. If you take a round trip that could be complicated as the system may not recoginse the fact that you check in and out at the same station, it may assume that you got off somewhere and forgot to check out so you may be charged more. The monorail is 25 dirhams return payable separately.

  • Denise

    Great, I think I’ve got it !
If I get the Nol day pass 20 dirhams I can use for individual journeys on water bus. ( say 2 in the marina) not hopping on and off all day.
    I’m still not 100 % sure.
Or can I buy individual tickets to get on water bus at the marina?
    ( as you guessed I’m a tourist)

    • admin

Well to be honest it’s not totally clear! Although the water bus costs 2 dirhams for individual journeys, I’m not sure this is included in the 20 dirhams day price. The day ticket price for Metro, bus and Tram is not actually a ticket but a limit on the amount you are charged. Therefore, they may not include the 2 dirham water bus journeys within that 20 dirham. This is something I have not actually tested out so I would need to try this myself to make sure this is right! Sorry it’s a little bit vague!

  • Denise

Sorry a bit confused, I will need 2 day passes. ( metro & water bus)
Thank you for telling me where to get water bus pass

    • admin

So with the Nol card, there is a maximum daily amount taken of 20 dirhams (the effective day pass for land transport – metro, tram and buses) – although you can also use the Nol card for the water bus, this does have a separate day ticket price of 25 dirhams.

  • Denise

    Re day tickets
If I buy day ticket for metro / tram, can I also use on water bus( marina).
Or do I have to buy seperate day pass , as no cash is taken on water bus.
And where would I get the water bus day pass from
    Thanks

    • admin

Hi Denise, no you need to get a separate day pass for the water bus (25 dirhams) – you can get that at the Dubai Marina Customer Service Office or I believe at any of the Water Bus stations.

  • Desmond

Why is my fare from Mina Al Seyahi tram station to World Trade Centre metro station AED5 but from World Trade Centre Metro station back to Mina Al Seyahi Station is AED8?

    • admin

Is it possible that you checked in at the station you changed trains? And then checked out again at your destination? That would give you 2 journeys, one of 2 zones for 5 dirhams and one within one zone of 3 dirhams?
