November 2014 Opening

There have been many reports recently of the conformation that the Al Sufouh Tram stage 1 will be opening in November 2014. Although we often hear dates in Dubai for openings that actually get delayed, it is possible that this might now happen.

There are a few reasons for the optimism on this occasion: firstly, as previously reported, the funding has been approved for the first stage and the money is in place to make this happen on time. The previous problems with terms etc on the project have been put to one side and it is all systems go.

Secondly, the Dubai Metro project is now pretty much fully live. Whilst the metro project was still ongoing most of the focus of the RTA was on getting this finished and up and running. Now that the red and the green line are open (barring a few stations which are finished but the RTA has deemed that there is not enough demand to open them yet) the project has essentially been completed and focus can shift onto the Al Sufouh Tram.

Thirdly, the project has been fully endorsed by Sheikh Mohammed and his endorsement often means that there is more pressure to get something completed if it is known he is keen for that to happen.

So all in all we are hopeful of a November 2014 opening.
